Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark is an action-adventure video game developed by Edge of Reality and published by Activision. It is the third installment in the War for Cybertron series and the fourth installment in the movie game series.^[1] The game will be released June 24, 2014 for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4,Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.^[2] The game will serve as both a prequel to Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, and a companion to the film Transformers: Age of Extinction.^[3]

Plot

The game starts out with a narration by Lockdown as a glowing purple meteor flies by. Then, Drift is ordered by Optimus to get a gun to help take down Lockdown's mercenaries. The Autobots reach the crash site and Optimus sees an ancient Cybertronian relic called "the Dark Spark". The Autobots clear out all the remaining mercenaries, but fail to stop Lockdown from reaching the Dark Spark. Optimus tries to stop Lockdown from taking off with the dark spark, but Lockdown uses his new weapon to slow down the Autobots as he takes off. Then as the credits roll narrations by Optimus and Megatron give more info about the Dark Spark as it is the antithesis of the Matrix of Leadership,(as being explained the Matrix had to have something opposite to balance it out). Where the Matrix grants wisdom, the dark spark gives the user the power to bend the universe and its inhabitants to their own will. Megatron and Optimus give explanations to their factions' current state, as the Autobots are facing their darkest hour, but its the opposite for the Decepticons. Megatron send Soundwave, Starscream, and Shockwave to the Crystal City vault to find the dark spark as it could be the only key to wipe the Autobots from the face of the universe. The Decepticon team encounters heavy resistance from subterranean bugs. Shockwave deviates from the course as he tries to stop these bugs, Shockwave then encounters the Insecticons Hardshell, Kickback, and Sharpshot. As Shockwave defeats all of the Insecticons he gives them the option to serve the Decepticons or face destruction. They choose the former and join the Decepticon faction. Soon, Starscream and Soundwave find out about the inscecticons' allegiance change, when Shockwave tells them that they shouldn't be attacking their "new recruits". The team reaches the vault, but it's guarded by warriors that resemble Zeta Prime. After defeating the warriors, the group finds that keys are needed to open the vault, so they split up to retrieve the keys. Once all the keys are retrieved, the vault opens to reveal Ironhide and Swideswipe inside. They take the dark spark, and escape through a door just before it closes and locks. But Laserbeak is shown hacking the controls for the door, but the game then shifts from the Decepticons to the Autobots, as Swideswipe and Ironhide have to take the dark spark to Optimus.
